Realtek Pcie Fe Family Controller Driver Latest Version

I know this is rather long, but want to be as thorough as possible. I have an older motherboard, an MSI 990FXA-GD80 (MS-7640). Up until the Creators Update/Fall Creators Update, I had no problems at all. When the Creators Update was first released, I installed it, but after logging in I saw that my onboard Ethernet(Realtek Family GBE Controller) no longer worked - the messaging was that the device cannot start (code 10).
I figured this was an issue with the feature update being incompatible with my hardware, and just rolled back to 1607. Network connectivity was restored; all was well again. I kept 1607 up until a few days ago, until MS pushed the update to my machine - I had no choice but to install. Once again I had a code 10, device cannot start. I rolled back.
A few hours later, the update was forced through again. I rolled back, gave feedback as to why I was rolling back, but the update still kept being forced on me. I uninstalled the Upgrade Assistant; it would reinstall and install the update again. I probably uninstalled/had the update reinstalled more than 10 times. After that, my computer stopped booting.
I downloaded a fresh ISO to a thumb drive and reinstalled 1709 from scratch. Same issue - Code 10 for Ethernet adapter. I have now done the following, with no success:
1. Checked for any BIOS updates for my motherboard (I am current, no updates since 2015);
2. Checked MSI for any updated network drivers for my motherboard (there were none);
3. Searched internet by device instance path (PCIVEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_816810EC&REV_064&4784A6C&0&0058) ?and installed drivers ?that I found that matched my device;
4. Installed older drivers from the CD that came with my motherboard;
5. Disabled onboard Ethernet and purchased a Rosewill Gigabit PCIe LAN Card off Amazon and installed in a spare slot; same issue as the previous card (it shows up as a Realtek Gigabit PCIe LAN Card as well, same issue);
6. Hooked up wireless USB adapter, connected to wireless and attempted updating drivers from Device Manager and Windows Update;
I also searched the internet thinking surely other people have had this issue, but have found nothing.
Please help!
