Description of World Championship Boxing Manager
World Championship Boxing Manager (WCBM) is a great sport game by Goliath Games that not only pioneered the niche genre of boxing simulation, but also stands today as one of the best games of its kind ever made.
WCBM puts you in control of up to 5 boxers. You must use your skills as Manager/Promoter against the 17 computer-controlled managers who together have 100 boxers under contract. In addition to tactical acumen that is required in most simulation games, you will also need strong negotiation skills to secure bouts against rated boxers, which will increase the world ranking of your fighters on their long, arduous road to becoming world champions.
Your routine job as manager is to scout for new talent and court them to sign contracts with you, and prepare your boxers prior to each bout. You can plan each boxer's training schedule in detail, and different activities realistically affect different statistics. For example, running improves stamina, and weight training improves strength. Certain injuries may occur during training, e.g. sparring may result in a cut, or weight training may pull a boxer's muscle, forcing you to postpone a fight. During each bout, your role is to plan the boxer's tactical moves and counter the opponent's strategy. You must also keep an eye out for your boxer's damage and tiredness levels, and 'repair' him as necessary between rounds.
Part of the fun in WCBM is gauging the judges' impression of your boxer's performance. There are three judges, as in real life, each with individual personality and his own style of scoring. To make the game more challenging, boxing commentator in the game also colors the match with his own opinion. You must rely upon biased opinions from Eddie the Expert, make your own assessment during the fight, and hope that it agrees with the judges' opinions.
With a lot of tactical and strategic options, innovative gameplay including individualistic judges and emphasis on negotiation skills, WCBM is no doubt one of the best boxing simulation games ever made. If you are a boxing fan, don't pass this underdog up.

I needed some quick cash so took my top boxer and hung him out to dry by scheduling a match with a much better boxer. Furthermore he only had a week to prepare! In the match he was falling apart. Lost the first round while getting barraged by a series of combinations. Lost the second round getting fed a steady diet of knuckle sandwiches up against the ropes. I repaired him but it that he wasn't going to last and no amount of water and vasoline was going to help. So I talked him up-- I told him to head hunt-- go for the good ol' KO. He comes out swinging and IMMEDIATELY goes down! I'm sitting there screaming while the ref gives him a standing 8 count. My guy gets back up, takes a barrage of punches and the ref stops the fight. His confidence was killed. He was never the same boxer. As a boxing manager I feel like it was my responsibility to protect my fighter. Instead I ruined his career for a quick buck. I've never felt so sick to my stomach. I promised that I'd never make that mistake again. Little did I know, I wouldn't have the chance as the whole experience also killed my confidence as a boxing manager. I abstained from scheduling fights. I just hung out with my cat in the hallway and my secretary in my office. The gym was still open but I wasn't scheduling the fighters, and the medic still came in to tend to half naked face down patients. And of course I'd take my sportscar out every week to take in the fights. But after awhile even that stopped. Too many bad memories. By the end I was in my office just watching the calendar dates change. Mail would come in, mail would come out but I wasn't reading it. Wasn't interested in much of anything. Years went by. I got older. I did odd jobs to keep the office. And one day I realized I was over it. I was never going to be that great boxing manager I set out to be and that was alright. It was fate. I had accepted it, and I finally found peace.
Then he walked in. The Future Pizza King himself. Little Mac. And my world turned upside down.
